Toney Marino, Jr.

Mr. Toney Marino, Jr., passed peacefully on April 10, 2019, at Hubbard Hospice House.
He was born November 26, 1932, in Mabscott, WV. A lifelong resident of Beckley, Toney was the son of the late Toney and Mary Marino, Sr.
Toney attended Woodrow Wilson High School. After high school, he served in the Army National Guard. He spent his career in printing, first working for Biggs, Johnson, Withrow Printing, where he met lifelong friend George Wilson, and later the Central Printing Company. Toney's employer at Central Printing was Bob McClure, his longtime friend and golfing buddy. He enjoyed gardening, participating in car shows, his Corvette, doting over his beloved cats and playing golf in his younger years. Toney never met a stranger.
Toney was married for 65 years to his high school sweetheart, Mary Kathryn, who recently preceded him in death. In the years following their retirements, they enjoyed making numerous road trips to North Carolina. They were rarely seen apart.
Toney is survived by two sisters, Mary Ann Marino Fisher and Delores Marino Hodges, nieces and nephews, Toni, Susan, Donna, David, Karen and Kevin. He also had many great nieces and nephews and five great-great nieces and nephews.
Though Toney and Mary K. did not have any biological children, they both affectionately claimed Gary Spangler as their son. Gary was an integral part of their lives for over 45 years. From golfing partner, Bud Light buddy, family Holiday parties and transporter to appointments, Gary was always there for Toney and Mary.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2019, at 11:00 AM, in the chapel of Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley, WV.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers to please send donations to the Raleigh County Humane Society or the Alzheimer's Association.

Toney and Mary were very special to us, my husband tommy did odd jobs for them for over 20 years, toney loved to work on yard projects every year and would always call on tommy to help him, he thought of him very highly, they shared a lot of laughs together and my husband would come home and tell me what delicious food Mary fed him while he was there, she made us an out of this world cheesecake one year for Christmas and we always exchanged cards and photos, I sent her pictures of Nick and Sarah from the time they were born, I loved Mary, we spoke on the phone several times and she was so sweet, we both love, love kitty cats 🐱 We will miss them dearly, they are together again now and fore...vermore, we love you guys! Sending condolences and prayers to the family ❤️Read more

Uncle Toney and Aunt Mary were very special people in my life. When they lived in the little brown house, I would go and stay with them as soon as they returned from work. Aunt Mary even let me name her kitten "George." He was a great cat and lived for a long time. I stayed at there house on Booth Avenue every time I went to Beckley. They always treated me as if I were their own. After my husband and I moved to Florida, they visited me on multiple occasions. We had a special little Italian restaurant that served Uncle Toney's favorite red wine. We would always go to the flea market in Jacksonville and I still have the Cypress clock we bought hanging over my fireplace. They were Godp...arents to my daughter, Amanda. When my father passed away, in 2011, they were here to help us deal with the impending loss. They both will always live in my heart and I will never forget all the time we spent together. I love them both so much!Read more

Uncle Toney and I shared a love of animals. He and Aunt Mary loved their furry children, cats, and provided an awesome home for them. I will always have fond memories of spending time at their home throughout my life. Uncle Toney also had a love of cars, and I was fortunate enough to go to a car show with him, my mom, my two sisters and niece while in Beckley.
My mom, Uncle Toney and Aunt Dee were the only relatives on my mom’s side in the USA. Last year my daughter and I went to Santa Eugenia, Spain and visited with family. We were hoping for one last trip for my mom and Uncle Toney to see their family, but he will continue being with all of us in memory. Rest well my dear uncle ❤️; will be missed!!Read more

Knew Toney for over 37 years after I married into the family. I married his namesake Toni. Toney was such a gregarious guy. Many fond memories of the Black Knight CC years. Always had a story to tell. He loved making his "social rounds": the pharmacy, the bank, Creative Exteriors, Gabriel Brothers and Sams Club. The Marino family will deeply miss Toney. Special expression of gratitude to Gary Spangler. Gary has always been there for Toney and Mary, especially the last several years as their health deteriorated.
